George Hamilton

Gisteravond heb ik naar “My one and only” gekeken, een onderhoudend filmpje van Richard Loncraine uit 2009 met in de hoofdrol Renée Zellweger, maar de film wordt verteld door haar zoon George, gespeeld door Logan Lerman (zie bovenstaande foto). Als die op het einde acteur wordt, neemt hij op een bepaald moment plaats in een zeteltje met daarop de naam “George Hamilton”, maar toen nog had ik niks door omdat hij in de film vooral als schrijver wordt geportretteerd. Maar het ging dus wel degelijk over de jeugdjaren van acteur George Hamilton…

George Stevens Hamilton werd geboren in Memphis, Tennessee op 12 augustus 1939) as the middle of three boys with an older maternal half-brother and a younger full brother (not in the movie), and lived in Blytheville, Arkansas. He is the eldest son of Ann Stevens and bandleader George “Spike” Hamilton (in the movie Kevin Bacon as Danny Devereaux). His stepfathers were Carleton Hunt and Jesse Spalding; his stepmother was June Howard, with whom Hamilton said he had repeated sexual relations when he was age 12, shortly after she married his father, and again later when he was an adult.

Hij debuteerde dus al in 1952, met een klein rolletje in de film Lone Star. Eind jaren vijftig speelde hij gastrollen in toen gerenommeerde televisieseries als The Veil (playing an Indian), The Adventures of Rin Tin Tin, The Donna Reed Show, and Cimarron City. For his debut performance in Crime and Punishment U.S.A. (1959), Hamilton won a Golden Globe Award and was nominated for a BAFTA Award, maar hij brak door in 1960 als Theron Hunnicutt in de dramafilm Home from the Hill, waarin hij de zoon van Robert Mitchum speelt. Other notable films include By Love Possessed (1961), Light in the Piazza (1962), Your Cheatin’ Heart (1964), Once Is Not Enough (1975), Love at First Bite (1979), Zorro, The Gay Blade (1981), The Godfather Part III (1990), Doc Hollywood (1991), 8 Heads in a Duffel Bag (1997), Hollywood Ending (2002), and The Congressman (2016). 

In 1966, Hamilton had a relationship with Lynda Bird Johnson, the daughter of U.S. President Lyndon B. Johnson. Tussen 1972 en 1975 was Hamilton getrouwd met actrice Alana Stewart. Uit dit huwelijk werd zoon Ashley geboren. From 1995 to 1999, Hamilton dated Kimberly Blackford. In December 1999, Kimberly gave birth to their son, George Thomas Hamilton. As a contestant in I’m A Celebrity in 2009, Hamilton revealed he had dated at least four Miss Worlds. Hamilton has a well-known social relationship with Imelda Marcos, widow of former Philippine dictator Ferdinand Marcos, and had business ties to the Marcos family. (Wikipedia)
