Today it’s 250 years ago that the hymn that became known as “Amazing Grace” is first used to accompany a sermon led by John Newton in the town of Olney, England. At that time it had the swinging title “1 Chronicles 17:16–17”. With a title like that it could never have made the hitparade. Not even the religious one.
