55 jaar geleden: “Fill your head with rock”

Net zoals zovelen heb ik mij 55 jaar geleden de dubbelaar “Fill your head with rock” aangeschaft, een sampler van de rockafdeling van CBS. Op de kaft stond violist Jerry Goodman van The Flock, die op de sampler vertegenwoordigd waren met een uitstekende cover van “Tired of waiting” van The Kinks.

Eerlijk gezegd, met het begrip “sampler” was ik in die tijd nog niet vertrouwd, dat zou merkwaardig genoeg pas later komen, toen ik mij meer voor klassieke muziek begon te interesseren. Daar is het inderdaad gebruikelijk om vier keren per jaar met een sampler uit te pakken, waarop dan een tiental voorbeelden van recent uitgebrachte cd’s staan. Die samplers krijgen dan ook de naam van een jaargetijde mee. Zo heb je de lentesampler (spring), de zomersampler (summer), de herfstsampler (autumn) en de wintersampler.
