Het is vandaag al 35 jaar geleden dat de Australische wielrenner John Woodman (op bovenstaande foto op kop in zijn laatste race, the Dubbo to Lightning Ride Two Day Tour) is overleden door een aanrijding op training.
John Woodman joined the Lavington Cycling Club in 1970 and in his first season won the U/16 Club Championship of New South Wales. John turned professional in 1976, and in 1978 joined the Sydney based Gitane cycling team. John rode six Sun Tours from 1978 to 1983, and was selected to ride in 1986. John was a member of the winning team in both 1979 and 1983.
John was killed on the 1st of October 1986 at Table Top, whilst training in preparation for the up and coming Sun Tour. Each year a race is held in memory of John, paying tribute to a talented cyclist and a great friend.
